Meeting Notes:
1. Community Updates
Rebecca: Attended Music Bingo event at Domingo’s; very positive experience. Invites everyone to the next event at Migration next month.
Mallory: Reports a great month; sold a couple of houses in the neighborhood.
Kacey: Resident; good month overall. Concerned about potential sale of nearby building at 4–5 SE 27th. Loves the neighborhood, hopes not to move.
Kris: Owner of the newspaper side of the Examiner; no further updates.
Nicole (ReVamped Salon): Strong sales growth this month. Hosting “Vampires on the Beach” party, July 19th (7 PM – midnight) in the atrium of the Bindery building as a fundraiser. Marketing efforts, including theater slides, credited for sales increase.
Savannah: Resident and Heritage Barbershop employee; new to area, excited to get involved.
Jude: Runs Brewer Audio; Kernside secretary; working on community updates.
2. Urbanist Updates (Thomas)
IRS employee identification number received; nonprofit determination in progress.
Public Environmental Management Office (PEMO) biweekly call available for neighborhood issues (housing, violence, mental illness). Police officers attend regularly.
EMC PR firm engaged by Portland government for “Portland reputation management project” – focusing on positive media coverage. Key issues: budget and immigration protests. Positive anecdote: businesses reported a busy day during last protest.
Instagram account surpassed 1,100 followers; 50,000+ views last month; 2,000 interactions.
3. New Team Member Introductions
Alex: Treasurer; apologized for being late.
4. Upcoming Events
Rainbow Road & Community Events (Thomas & Amber)
Free public classes Saturdays at 10 AM, 20 attendees at first session.
Tiny Giants Brewery launch: June 14th.
Really, Really Free Market: June 21st.
Kernside Serenade: June 22nd.
Second Beer Keg Strongman Migration: July 12th.
Amber: Kernside Serenade, June 20–22; Ollie Collins’ one-man show with community involvement. Saturday shows ongoing. Busking sign-up sheet proposed for Sundays; performers limited to two appearances/month; decibel limit ~70dB.
Queer Liberation Music & Arts Festival (Kacey)
Proposed for Rainbow Road + parking lot at The Work Space, Saturday, July 12th, 12–6 PM.
Hosted by PSU Students for a Democratic Society & Free World Socialist Organization.
Features DJs, drag performers, musicians, vendor tables.
Focus: queer and trans rights, community building, support local businesses.
Potential coordination with Nicole’s event for vendor synergy.
Noise permit likely unnecessary if sound is directed away from streets and under 70dB.
Suggested vendors: local queer-focused groups from previous events (e.g., “Eat the Rich” at Laurelhurst).
Printing: Risograph print shop “Outlet” recommended for flyers/posters.
Additional Event Notes
Kernside Music & Bingo events in September; Thursday weekday scheduling possible.
Summer concert for students at Oaks Park: June 28th; raffle donations welcome (gift cards or items benefiting donors).
5. Neighborhood Development Updates
Bindery Annex and Bakery Blocks becoming an emerging hub for events.
Culmination Brewing and Aimsir Distillery vacated; Kachka (dumplings) & new vodka distillery moving in.
Rosenstadt Brewery to occupy former brewery space; first physical location in Portland.
Candle Creation Bar owners members of community; potential indoor/outdoor event space.
West Side (12th Ave) engagement in progress; Triumph Coffee interested in participation.
Block party planning: Ash & 28th; July tentative.
6. Documentary Update (Jude)
Grant submitted for video documentary.
Independent audio series planned for summer launch via new RSS feed (“The Process”).
Content: interviews with neighborhood folks, business highlights, community storytelling.
PR interest from EMC for positive community coverage.
7. Other Business
Rebecca: Friend seeking new publisher for children’s book after previous publisher went out of business. Needs guidance on republishing and ownership.
